Real Combat System Bristol | Boxing, Krav Maga, Grappling & Self Defence Classes


Real self defence if it is to truly work must be instinctive, fast and decisive, The Real Combat System South West is just that, being based upon and utilising the most effective parts of the best systems out there, Krav Maga, Boxing and Grappling (wrestling).

The harsh reality of  violence is nothing like the glamourised versions we see in films, or the sanitised versions we see in the martial arts contest arena where rules and referees exist.

Real street violence is ugly, chaotic and extremely dangerous with possible life changing consequences for all involved.

At Real Combat System South West we teach you self defence for the real world, covering the following:

  • Striking with fists, palms, elbows.

  • Blocks and counter strikes

  • Effective kicking and knees

  • Defence against weapons (knives, batons etc)

  • Breakaway techniques (chokes/grabs,holds etc)

  • Dirty Grappling/wrestling (ground work)

​Recognising the rituals used by would be aggressors prior to an attack, such as the deception techniques they employ to mentally disarm a victim before they attack; We are all aware of the classic lines "Have you got a light mate?" or "Have you got the time?" then just as you are focused on answering the question the attacker strikes.

Awareness: being tuned into your surrounding and whats going on is crucial to self defence, ask yourself; How can I defend myself if I am not even aware of possible threats around me?

Sadly many people who get attacked are victims because they are not tuned into their surroundings and did not see the threat or the attack coming.

All those years of training are pointless if you are not aware and prepared. Real Combat System South West covers this issue in-depth, teaching you awareness of your surroundings and any potential threats.

Avoidance: is often overlooked as a self defence, but the reality is we can do much to protect ourselves from possible attacks by practising good sensible avoidance strategies. That quite simply means avoiding places such as clubs and bars which have reputations for violence and avoiding certain areas and even people with reputations for trouble. To put it bluntly, if you visit a pub or club or hang around areas or with people with reputations for trouble, don't be too surprised if trouble finds you.  

Fear and the Adrenalin dump felt when faced with aggression can literally freeze even the most highly trained fighters if they are not prepared for its impact in a real life situation, Real Combat System South West will pressure test you and train you so that you are aware and more prepared for these uncomfortable feelings which trigger the primitive fight or flight syndrome within us all.


Real Combat System South West will teach you reality based techniques to protect yourself and your loved ones. 

We will train you to instinctively strike quickly with power to deal with any threat of violence decisively. 

It is ideal for women and men of all ages (however you must be at least 18 yrs old) no previous martial arts/self defence experience is necessary, you don't need to be super fit or have super strength either (although we will improve both of these) All you need to bring is enthusiasm and a willingness to learn.
